Acne treatment and over the counter acne products all have their place and time in our life. We need to understand the type of acne that we have and then determine which acne treatment is going to give us the most bang for our buck. When choosing an acne product it is best to choose a smaller dose to first try out the validity of the acne treatment and whether our not it is going to cure acne that we are presently suffering from. Below we will look at 2 cures for acne, and the acne treatment effectiveness with each.

Acne Products with Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is normally applied to your face in a gel or a creme form with a concentration of around 2.5 %. This works by killing the bacteria in your skin that produces acne and pimples. It is well known in the industry as being one of the most effective acne treatment products that you can buy. It is important however for you to know that the larger dose of 5-10 % should be worked up to. Your initial acne treatment should consist of the recommended amount of 2.5%. The gel form of this acne product is used as a spot application. This is where you would put it right on the infected area. You may experience an initial dryness of your skin, and sometimes a mild irritation, but you should develop a tolerance to this type of treatment within a week or so. Common products that contain this ingredient are Clearasil and ProActiv, although there are a variety of generic acne products that contain this. Do not worry about the brand of the product that you are purchasing, but rather that it contains the Benzoyl Peroxide in the recommended 2.5% concentration.

Acne Products with Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has shown very good results in treatment. The actual tree oil comes from an Australian tree that is known as the Narrow Leaved tea tree or Melaleucaalternafoilia. Several countries including Australia have used tea tree oil as a topical antiseptic. This may better be known to you as a body surface antiseptic. This ingredient in acne products will help you control infection, which we all know acne is a form of. Topical antiseptic products normally use water or alcohol in their base. Although both are effective in acne products, it should be noted that products that contain alcohol as a base will usually have a drying effect on your skin. If you are already suffering from a dry skin condition you may want to try a water based product first. A common acne treatment that contains this can come in a variety of products such as cleansers, soaps, moisturizers and cremes. The common concentration of tree oil should be around 5% to benefit from this.

Although this is only two of many acne products that are currently available, we will further discuss alternatives to your acne treatment and other issues that we suffer from in upcoming articles.
